How Colony Was Built — From Idea to AI Sales System in 3 Weeks

It started with an observation I couldn't shake: every CRM I was asked to implement for clients was, at its core, a data entry tool — not a sales system.

The Problem with Existing CRMs

Salesforce. HubSpot. Pipedrive. These tools were built so humans could input data. They help managers fill dashboards. But they don't sell.

The result: a mid-sized company with a 15-person sales team pays €40,000–60,000 per month in personnel costs — and yet, according to our analysis, 60% of all incoming leads never receive a qualified response within 24 hours. Not because people aren't trying. Wrong infrastructure.

Why CRM Retrofits Don't Work

The approach most companies try first: extend existing CRMs with AI plugins. HubSpot AI Assist. Salesforce Einstein. Zoho Zia. The idea sounds appealing — keep the tool, layer AI on top.

The reality is different. These "AI features" are text generators that write into form fields. They don't understand sales context. They have no access to customer data in real time. They don't execute actions. And most importantly: they don't learn from what works.

We had clients who'd gone exactly this route. After 6 months, €30,000 in implementation costs, and extensive team training: a better-categorized CRM. Zero AI-driven revenue increase.

Colony — Built From Scratch

In November 2025, I decided to build Colony from the ground up. Not as a CRM with AI features. But as the first AI sales system designed from day one for autonomous action.
